Early Life and Background
Levan Saginashvili was born on September 15, 1988, in Tbilisi, Georgia. He grew up in a country with a strong sporting culture, particularly in wrestling and other strength-based disciplines.
Football was one of his early sporting interests. He played as a defender before health-related difficulties reportedly forced him to leave the sport. Later, he discovered arm wrestling and began developing his natural strength.
His journey into professional arm wrestling did not begin with an international competition or a major training facility. Instead, a person at his gym noticed his physical potential and encouraged him to try the sport. That opportunity eventually changed the direction of his athletic career.
How Old Is Levan Saginashvili?

He entered his late thirties after spending more than a decade competing at a high level. His experience, strength, and technical development have helped him remain a major name in the super heavyweight division.
Age alone does not explain his success. Arm wrestling requires a combination of hand control, wrist strength, technique, and physical conditioning. Saginashvili has developed these abilities throughout his career.

Interestingly, Saginashvili reportedly trained on ordinary tables before he encountered a professional arm wrestling table at his first competition.
His first major national competition came in 2012. He finished second in both the right-hand and left-hand divisions at the Georgian National Armwrestling Championship.
These early results showed that he could compete against experienced athletes. He continued improving and soon began testing himself against international opponents.

Why Is Levan Saginashvili Called the Georgian Hulk?
The nickname “Georgian Hulk” comes from Saginashvili’s extraordinary physical appearance and strength. His large frame, muscular arms, and powerful hands make him stand out among professional arm wrestlers.
His reported height is approximately 191 centimeters, while his competition weight has often appeared around 180 kilograms. These figures help explain his presence in the super heavyweight division.
However, body size alone does not make someone a successful arm wrestler. The sport also requires precise technique, wrist control, grip strength, and the ability to manage pressure. Saginashvili combines these qualities with his physical power.
The nickname became internationally recognized as he continued winning major competitions and defeating prominent opponents.
Levan Saginashvili vs Devon Larratt
One of the biggest rivalries in Saginashvili’s career involves Canadian arm wrestler Devon Larratt. Both athletes have achieved international recognition, and their matches attracted significant attention from the arm wrestling community.
Their first major modern supermatch took place at King of the Table 4 in June 2022. Saginashvili dominated the contest and defeated Larratt by six rounds to zero.
They met again on April 20, 2024, at East vs West 12. Saginashvili once again controlled the match, winning 4–0 and securing the East vs West super heavyweight title.
These victories strengthened his reputation as one of the most dominant right-arm competitors in the sport.
Levan Saginashvili vs Ermes Gasparini
Italian arm wrestler Ermes Gasparini is another major opponent in Saginashvili’s career. Their matches demonstrated the physical demands and competitive intensity of modern super heavyweight arm wrestling.
The two first faced each other at King of the Table 6 in February 2023. Saginashvili took an early lead, but Gasparini fought back and won two rounds. Saginashvili eventually secured a 4–2 victory.
They met again at East vs West 18 in June 2025. This time, Saginashvili delivered a 4–0 win over Gasparini.
The result further strengthened his position among the leading athletes in the right-arm super heavyweight division.
Injuries and His Decision to Vacate the Title
Saginashvili has faced physical challenges during his career, including a significant wrist injury that affected his competition schedule.
He returned from that injury in April 2024 and defeated Devon Larratt to win the East vs West super heavyweight championship. His comeback demonstrated his ability to compete against elite opponents after a difficult recovery period.
However, another injury later affected his plans. On July 31, 2026, he relinquished his East vs West right-arm super heavyweight title to focus on recovery.
The decision left the championship vacant. Saginashvili has indicated that he expects to return to competition in 2027, although a specific date and opponent have not been confirmed.
